Wine country travel is extremely popular and for good reason. The
beautiful scenery combined with excellent lodgings and restaurants
makes for a great vacation. Most visitors to wine country spend more
time on their rears than they want to, as they shuttle from hotel to
winery to restaurant. This is a great whole new element to wine
touring...staying active - on foot, bike, horseback, and canoe.
This tour will focus on the wine in addition to the activities.
There are private wine tours, conversations with local vintners,
exclusive walks through vineyards, and other opportunities to
intimately get to know the wines of the region. (Note: Non-drinkers
will also enjoy these tours. The Burgundy, Provence, Spain, Italy,
and South Africa wine tours are especially suited to non-drinkers as
the wineries can generally be skipped or limited.)

These trips define trekking as "multiday hikes without carrying your
own gear". Why not experience a trekking tour that allows you to
reach incredible places but not be burdened with 50-pound packs
trying to get there. The means of moving our gear varies by
location. In Peru and on Mount Kilimanjaro, we have local porters.
In Yellowstone we use horses. In Tibet, they round up yaks from the
nearby villages and in Patagonia use Zodiac boats.
The hiking travel vacations are a little more diverse offering a
hotel-based hiking vacation in Montana's Glacier National Park and a
Winter in Yellowstone tour which is comprised of snowshoeing and
cross country skiing.
On both of these trekking tours and hiking tour vacations, you carry
only what you need for the day: snacks, water, and extra clothing.
On treks you generally sleep in tents (in Patagonia mountain
refugios) but this is luxury camping. The staff sets up your tents,
cooks delicious meals and cleans up afterwards. On your hiking tours
and generally on the first and last night excellent local hotels
will be provided.
